A former political adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has advised the flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2023 Presidential Elections, Atiku Abubakar, to quit contesting for the presidency.
Baba-Ahmed made this remark while speaking in an interview with AIT on Monday.
Atiku, who served as Vice President for eight years during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, has contested for the highly contested seat of Nigeria’s President three times.
While reflecting on Atiku’s political history, Baba-Ahmed advised the former VP to focus on being a father figure, noting that it is a remarkable thing in Africa.
“You are a very prominent member of the PDP, a founding member of the PDP. You have been vice president for eight years and contested three times. I think he should be a hero of democracy, but I don’t think he should aspire to lead this country.
“I think he should be a father figure. He should be involved in building an alternative to the APC. He should bring in new blood, new perspectives, and new people, and say that the future belongs to you. We will stand behind him. Amaechi should do the same thing. El-Rufai, if he thinks he can handle his own ego, should be a part of it,” he said.
