Politicians bury differences as FCT PDP Chairman, Sunday Zakka laid to rest.
From Cyril Mbah, Abuja.
Politicians and other residents of the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday put aside political differences and trooped to Kuje Area Council in large numbers, irrespective of party affiliation, to pay their last respect to the FCT Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ([PDP), Chief Sunday Dogo Zakka, who died in a ghastly road accident on the eve of the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections in Abuja.
The large number of vehicles that came into the sleepy Kuje town caused long traffic jam even along inner link roads leading into the major Kuje-Gwagwalada highway and left commuters stranded for several hours.
It was observed that the traffic situation became worse when the ambulance bearing the remains of the politician moved in a convoy from ECWA Church, Sundaba to his residence, where he was buried at about 1pm after a three-hour funeral service attended by Senate Minority Leader, Senator Phillip Tanimu Aduda, serving FCT House of Representatives members and Kuje Area Council Chairman, Abdullahi Sabo, among other dignitaries.
In a tribute to the late chairman, Senator Aduda recalled the doggedness of the deceased in the service of the PDP and while describing the death of Sunday Zakka, as painful, ill-timed and disheartening, Aduda said, “This is the time for courage, this is the time for high spirit and this is the time to pray.”
He recalled the temptations of Job in the Christian bible and described Chief Zakka,’s death as a personal temptation, which came at a very wrong period. “I wish I can explain the depth of our grieve and I wish this death did not happen at this time knowing full well our plans with Sunday Chairman for the future,” he said.
The Senate Minority Leader and other dignitaries, who spoke at the funeral service, prayed to God to give the deceased eternal rest and to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Some dignitaries, who sent tributes to the bereaved family included the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), represented by the Deputy State Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Babaji Madaki and State Secretary Hon. Bako Angulu, the Kuje Area Council PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed Yenche and the Executive Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Dr. John S. Gabaya among many others.
