Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that serving as deputy to President Muhammadu Buhari for seven years has prepared him for leadership that will usher in a new Nigeria.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), yesterday, said that his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, has prepared him on how to govern a complex country like Nigeria.
He made the remarks at the grand finale of his consultations with stakeholders and delegates of All Progressives Congress (APC) across the country, which held at Ikeja, Lagos State, ahead of the party’s presidential primary on Sunday.
Lagos deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, led other dignitaries in the entourage of the Vice President to the parley. The party faithful, who were apparently elated, showed their admiration and support for Osinbajo and his presidential aspiration.
Speaking to the large crowd, he explained why he decided to vie for the post of president, saying, “my decision to run is on account of the fact that first, I desire deeply to serve this country, to serve the people of this country, especially the man on the street, the common man.
“My desire is to serve this country truthfully, very honestly and transparently; to take this country to the best possible place.”
“The truth is that God has not made a mistake, the reason God has given me opportunity to serve is because a time will come when our country will need new leadership. That time has come.
“I’m sure, everyone knows that if you have seven years of experience you will be better than those without experience.
Osinbajo noted that Nigerians need to back up their words with their votes if they want a new Nigeria.
The vice president stated that the experience he has gathered while working with President Muhammadu Buhari for seven years has enabled him to understand how to govern the country despite its complex nature.
“I’m home to celebrate. I’m home to thank God for what he has done and for what he will do. I’m not here for a campaign. I’m not here to make consultations. I just want to celebrate with my brothers and sisters of Lagos state,” Osinbajo said.
“But I want to say to you that we have just ahead of us a new Nigeria. I’m certain God helping us that we will get to that new Nigeria.
“So, by the grace of God, I will achieve the aim of bringing about a new Nigeria. We can only achieve it if we back it up with our votes beginning from this Sunday at the primary.”
